Images of Tuscany 2018 – Post #4

This is an image of the beautiful old town of Pitigliano, but of its north-facing side which is less often photographed compared to its south side. I took the shot from Via Santa Chiara, the approximate location on Google Maps is here.

This image was shot on the Fujifilm X-H1 fitted with Voigtlander Color Heliar 70mm f/2.5. This is a fully manual lens with a Leica mount, like all rangefinder lenses it does not focus very close but is extremely compact and incredibly sharp.

Pitigliano itself is made up of the original old town plus quite a sprawling more modern town that has developed to its North East. I initially was a bit disappointed when my GPS landed me right in the middle of Pitigliano because it directed me to the modern town, not really very pictureqsue at all!

The old town itself is not anywhere near as tourist-orientated compared to other medieval towns in Tuscany. Pitigliano is home to a community who live and work there, it is actually quite run-down in places,  but it is pleasantly absent of gift shops.

If you visit Pitigliano, be sure to walk to the Northern end of Vicolo dell’Unita, Google Maps link is here, for incredible views across the valley to houses and waterfalls on the other side.
